FOOD Vs SUPPLEMENTS- 5 Reasons Why Supplements Are Not The Answer

5) FOOD NOT SUPPLEMENTS:
 

Firstly, 

My Beef With RDAS: (Recommended daily allowance)

1) RDAs are Based off of “averages”  We all process and require different amounts of nutrients. If your 250lbs and I’m 110, should we really be eating/needing the same amount of nutrients? Same with medical conditions and medications, every condition and medicine will effect how we process our fuel. The crazy thing is that many do not know, it is actually the Bacteria in our gut that actually process our food For us! So we must have a strong microbiome in order to process nutrient optimally. Which is known now, it's not just food that effects our microbiome but largely our environment and choices as well.  

Example: 
~twins only have 30% overlap of microbiome/bacteria from same upbringing…so how can we standardize for all if we have such different bacteria digesting? 
 
 
2) Vitamins and minerals work synergistically and need specific catalysts, enzymes, coenzymes, and other vitamins/minerals to be processed, absorbed, and utilized fully in our body. 
 
Examples:
~Calcium needs vitamin d to transport it and vitamin d needs magnesium/phosphorus. Without any one of these, their function and purpose could not be utilized.  
 
~Magnesium, calcium, vitamin D3 and vitamin K2 all work synergistically with one another. Excessive amounts of calcium without the counterbalance of magnesium, for example, can lead to a heart attack 
**(Think of a combination lock: you cannot open the lock with just 3 numbers)
 

3) We Excrete Much Of What We Take In

Example
~With the highest dose of Vitamin B5, only 8% is absorbed after 3 days (#1)

 

4) Supplements are not regulated and many times do not contain what they claim AND often dangerous levels

Examples:
~Melatonin- most supplements either contain 15%-300% of what’s listed in the bottle- even from trusted brand even 3mg is very excessive comparable to what is natural in our body

~Calcium supplements have been found to contain dangerous amounts of heavy metals like lead, and this unfortunately is not uncommon. Arguably ALL supplements have detectable levels of heavy metals (#22)

~Ayurvedics, protein powers, and green powers ironically have been found to contain the highest amounts of heavy metals so far.

 

5) Supplements train our bodies not to make our own nutrients which can take years and years to re-train production

Examples:
~Birth control pills with progesterone and estrogen overtime will train our bodies to stop producing in order to prevent overproducing

~Melatonin supplements regularly train our brain to stop producing it so when we stop, we have an even harder time sleeping

~Antidepressants just mask the disorder and train our brain not to make the good chemicals so the person ends up even more depressed if they ever try to stop

 

   SOOOOO Ya'll, moral of the story is to EAT REAL FOOD, stop trying to look for the easy way out and for a pill to solve your problems! It took many many years to get yourself/ourselves into a conditon/disease/symptom/state so we cannot expect them to disappear overnight. We must take our health into our own hands and put in the work if we Truly want to live a long, healthy life where we don't just exist butThrive!
