FOOD Vs SUPPLEMENTS- 5 Reasons Why Supplements Are Not The Answer
Firstly,
My Beef With RDAS: (Recommended daily allowance)
1) RDAs are Based off of “averages” We all process and require different amounts
of nutrients. If your 250lbs and I’m
110, should we really be eating/needing the same amount of nutrients? Same with medical conditions and medications, every condition and medicine will effect how we process our fuel. The crazy thing is that many do not know, it is actually the Bacteria in our gut that actually process
our food For us! So we must have a strong microbiome in order to process nutrient optimally. Which is known now, it's not just food that effects our microbiome but largely our environment and choices as well.
3) We Excrete Much Of What We Take In
4) Supplements are not regulated and many times do not contain what they claim AND often dangerous levels
~Calcium supplements have been found to contain dangerous amounts of heavy metals like lead, and this unfortunately is not uncommon. Arguably ALL supplements have detectable levels of heavy metals (#22)
~Ayurvedics, protein powers, and green powers ironically have been found to contain the highest amounts of heavy metals so far.
5) Supplements train our bodies not to make our own nutrients which can take years and years to re-train production
~Melatonin supplements regularly train our brain to stop producing it so when we stop, we have an even harder time sleeping
~Antidepressants just mask the disorder and train our brain not to make the good chemicals so the person ends up even more depressed if they ever try to stop
SOOOOO Ya'll, moral of the story is to EAT REAL FOOD, stop trying to look for the easy way out and for a pill to solve your problems! It took many many years to get yourself/ourselves into a conditon/disease/symptom/state so we cannot expect them to disappear overnight. We must take our health into our own hands and put in the work if we Truly want to live a long, healthy life where we don't just exist butThrive!
