ORGANIC FOOD, Is It Worth It? ORGANICS Shopping Cheat Sheet: Clean 15 and Dirty Dozen- Plant Based
~I Say YES, and I'll Tell You Why!
- Ex: pesticides reduced by 30% compared to non-organic
- We know that the sooner plants are eaten after harvesting = the closer to the source = the more nutrients are retained
- Also, the longer the storage= the higher the histamine content
- The plant is put under more stress during the growing process (due to the lack of pesticides to protect them) which makes it produce stronger, more resilient compounds, such as antioxidants, for their survival, which is believed to be beneficial to our health
~There currently isn’t any solid research proving that organics are significantly higher in nutritional value vs. conventional, you will hear many professionals saying it is not worth the extra cost, this is not taking transport/ storage/others into consideration, go with your gut!
My Thoughts: And why I’m still choosing organic (mostly, per clean 15)
1) If I Can Reduce Pesticides by ANY Amount, I Feel That it’s Worth it and 30% Less is a Big Difference in my Book! Also, who wants sludge in their food?!
- Pesticides and other toxins even in small amounts are neurotoxins, endocrine disruptors, and shown to contribute to our most prevalent diseases today (watch Zach Bush for more info)
2) Organic = Local (or more local) = MORE Nutrients Retained
- A significant portion of nutrients in vegetables are lost 24 hours after picking and continues to drop all the way along the transport and storage process
- More Fresh/Local/Organic you can buy = More Nutrients Retained
